Title Definition[]
FORFEITURE – n., 1: the act of forfeiting : the loss of property or money because of a breach of a legal obligation; 2: something that is forfeited.
Synopsis[]
Ichise’s right arm has been cut off by the promoter's lovers bodyguards, as revenge for his punching the lady last night. When he retaliates, his left leg is also chopped off. Keigo Oonishi is informed of the attack on the Gabe Elder by the Alliance, despite the Organo bodyguards he has provided. He gives orders for no retaliation, while getting his legs fixed by Doc.
Kazuho Yoshii tells the Gabe elder, Ran’s grandfather, that he came from “above”, and climbed the steps down to Lux. On the way home, Oonishi is met by the prizefight promoter, and informed about Ichise and how he disobeyed orders. Oonishi gets out of the car, then fires and intentionally misses Ichise. He says that letting him live is a better punishment, since Ichise will have no access to Raffia or Texhnolyze anyway, being of the poor class.
Yoshii bids farewell to the Gabe elder with thanks for all the kindness. When he is asked about his purpose for coming to Lux, he says that only Ran really knows. Yoshii has been told that Ran can see into the recent future.
Back in Organo headquarters, Oonishi and Yasuaki Iwata discuss how the Alliance is getting restless, due to the lack of prizefights or encounters with the Organo recently.
Oonishi calls Doc about a “new experiment” she might be interested in. Meanwhile, Ichise wanders around with a crutch. Shinji and Hal see him as they discuss the upcoming Alliance-Organo “party”. Meanwhile, Ran accompanies Yoshii by train into the city. They make small talk. She answers sparsely but is not unkind.
A fight between members of the Alliance and Organo is orchestrated and executed in a deserted structure. Major bloodshed ensues.
Ichise stumbles to the bottom of a flight of stairs. There, he hallucinates and sees himself, all limbs intact, walking up the stairs. The vision stops, looks down on him with scorn, then moves on. Doc finds Ichise there at the bottom of the stairs, more dead than alive. She looks him over with interest.

Trivia[]
- Another way in which the episode portrays this is in a seemingly very minor scene when Yoshii tells the elder his name. As he goes to say it, the sound of a train in the distance instantly cuts off his speech. If this scene wasn’t so deliberately placed, it would seem insignificant for the show as a whole. However, perhaps it can be interpret this as a symbol of the city of Lux itself not accepting Yoshii. Throughout much of the show we are presented an understanding of Lux as a living, organic city, one which has its own voice. So perhaps the drowning out of Yoshii’s speech is the city communicating its lack of acceptance of Yoshii.
